In an extensive TV interview broadcast on Sunday Donald Trump was questioned if he needed to obey the US constitution when it came to granting immigrants the right of due process. He responded I don’t know.

Despite the fact that a third term is generally seen as unlawful the US president also stated that he envisioned himself leaving office at the end of his current term and not running for a third This is something he has not always been consistent on.
However, Trump was less explicit on the necessity of due process and abiding by US law and court rulings when it came to granting immigrants full rights under US law in the face of his long-promised campaign of mass deportations.
“I’m not sure. I am not a lawyer I assure you When questioned by Meet the Press host Kristen Welker if he agreed with his secretary of state Marco Rubio who had previously stated that he supported the notion that everyone has the right to due process Trump responded I don’t know.
“I have to respond by saying again that I have brilliant lawyers that work for me and they are going to obviously follow what the Supreme Court said Trump added when pressed further. What you stated is not what.
Additionally Trump acknowledged the constitutional limitations that preclude him from running for a third term, giving his most explicit statement to yet that he intends to step down at the end of his second term.
“I will serve as president for eight years a total of two terms That always struck me as being really significant Trump remarked However he admitted that some people wanted him to serve a third term, which is currently illegal due to a 1947 constitutional amendment.
Telling the broadcaster I have never had requests so strong as that To the best of my knowledge however you are not permitted to do it I’m not sure if it’s constitutional for them to forbid you from doing it or anything else.
“I want to have four fantastic years and then hand it off to someone, preferably a great Republican, to continue it he continued.
“Because they like the job I’m doing, and it’s a compliment,” Trump said of the endorsement for a third term. It’s actually a tremendous compliment.”
As the Trump Organization started selling red hats bearing the Trump 2028 logo, the president made remarks that minimized the possibility of a third term. The description for the $50 caps reads, “The future looks bright! Use the Trump 2028 high crown hat to rewrite the regulations.
A resolution to change the Constitution to allow the president to be elected for up to three terms was filed in January by Republican congressman Andy Ogles of Tennessee. Calls were then made to reiterate the 22nd Amendment’s ban on a third term.
As party succession difficulties start to surface, Trump declined to be asked who he would support as a successor. This is a common stance taken by presidents who are not eligible to run again and do not want to be perceived as weak candidates.
When asked if he envisioned vice president JD Vance as his successor, Trump commended both Rubio and Vance, two candidates that are frequently brought up.
“It might very well be… That’s not something I want to get involved in. He seems like a wonderful, intelligent man to me. Marco is excellent. There are several excellent ones. I also see a great sense of unity. However, you would undoubtedly declare that someone is the vice president; if that person is exceptional, I suppose they would have an advantage.
