May Elle Fanning’s chances always be in her favor.
The 27-year-old “Maleficent” actress is the most recent addition to the cast of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” the official social media accounts for the movie announced.
Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks in the previous four “Hunger Games” films, will be played by Fanning in a younger role. Molly McCann as Louella McCoy and Iona Bell as Lou Lou were also confirmed for the cast on May 20.
Following her involvement in the upcoming “Predator: Badlands,” Fanning will be adding another well-known series to her resume: “The Hunger Games.” Last year, the Oscar-nominated Bob Dylan drama “A Complete Unknown” featured the Emmy nominee with Timothée Chalamet.
“Sunrise on the Reaping,” which is based on author Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel, is set 24 years before to the events of the first Hunger Games and centers on the fictitious 50th Hunger Games, an annual competition in whichrepresentatives from every Panem district compete to the death.
The 74th Hunger Games was the subject of the first “Hunger Games” book and the 2012 Jennifer Lawrence-starring movie adaptation.
Woody Harrelson’s portrayal of a youthful Haymitch Abernathy in the District 12 tribute “Sunrise on the Reaping” will be portrayed by Joseph Zada. Younger versions of a number of other original series characters will also appear in the movie.

The latest “Hunger Games” film, 2023’s “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” another prequel based on the 10th Hunger Games, featured a younger Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth, as the main character. Starring as well was Rachel Zegler.
