Pence warns effects of Trump’s tariffs could include price shock.

In an interview that aired on CNN on Monday, former Vice President Pence warned of a “price shock” and other repercussions of President Trump’s new tariff strategy.

Pence warns effects of Trump's tariffs could include price shock.

“I do worry that even the government has acknowledged that there might be an economic price shock when the so-called 90-day respite ends. … there might be shortages,” Pence said during her appearance on CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, alluding to a 90-day halt in “reciprocal” tariffs imposed last month on U.S. trading partners.

His remarks come after Trump recently made remarks regarding the price increases of some goods as a result of his tariffs, which include a 145 percent duty on China.

Trump remarked, “But perhaps the kids will have two dolls instead of thirty, and perhaps the two dolls will cost a few dollars more than they would normally.”

In the first few months of his second term, the president’s tariff policy has shook markets all around the world, damaged ties with longstanding allies like Canada and the European Union, and increased economic concerns.

In the midst of increased tensions over trade between their two nations, Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are scheduled to meet on Tuesday.

In the midst of increased tensions over trade between their two nations, Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney are scheduled to meet on Tuesday.

Carney claimed that the U.S. president had “fundamentally changed” the world in recent months, citing Trump’s desire to unite Canada with the U.S. and sweeping tariffs, after winning a recent Canadian election.

In a victory address last month in Ottawa, Carney declared, “America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country, as I’ve been warning for months.” “These threats are not unwarranted. In order for America to possess us, President Trump is attempting to shatter us. That is not going to happen.

He went on to say, “But we also have to acknowledge the fact that our world has changed fundamentally.”

“I do have concerns… with the president’s call for broad-based tariffs against friend and foe alike, that ultimately the administration is advancing policies that are not targeted at countries that have been abusing our trade relationship,” Pence stated in his CNN interview with Collins.
