This announcement was made on Wednesday during a showcase featuring Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The creator of “Steven Universe,” Rebecca Sugar, took the stage to unveil this latest addition, generating anticipation among fans and industry professionals alike for what promises to be a captivating continuation of the beloved series.

Following a succinct introduction by studio president Sam Register, who captivated the audience with a striking clip of himself as an Oz-like floating head amidst dramatic jets of flames, it was announced that “Teen Titans Go!”, the longest-running animated series in the history of DC, has officially been renewed for a tenth season on Cartoon Network.

This irreverent comedy, which draws inspiration from DC’s beloved teen superhero team, continues to explore the lives of Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Raven as they navigate the challenges of crime-fighting while simultaneously dealing with the humorous and often chaotic aspects of adolescence.

The milestone season will see the return of executive producers Luke Cormican, Peggy Regan, and Sam Register, ensuring that the series maintains its signature blend of humor and heart.

This year’s presentation by Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera took a notably different approach compared to what regular attendees have come to expect. In previous years, company executives typically provided a swift overview of various upcoming projects, showcasing a broad spectrum of their production pipeline.

However, this time, the event was marked by the presence of many of the studio’s iconic creators, who gathered to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Cartoon Network Studios. As a result, the focus shifted from executive presentations to a more creator-driven narrative, allowing the talented individuals behind the beloved animations to take center stage and share their insights and experiences.

Executive produced by Sugar in collaboration with her partner Ian Jones-Quartey, the creator of “OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes,” the upcoming series “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars” serves as a continuation of the beloved original show. This new installment will center around the character Lars Barriga, who is characterized as an “eternal teenager and space outlaw.”

The official synopsis reveals that the sequel will follow Lars and his crew of pirates as they engage in thrilling escapades, which include smuggling contraband, evading law enforcement, and delving into the hidden and sinister secrets of the fallen Gem Empire.

The original series “Steven Universe,” which aired from 2013 to 2020, emerged as a significant cultural touchstone, garnering a Peabody Award in recognition of its exceptional storytelling, commitment to diversity, and profound emotional resonance.

This upcoming installment is set to delve into the intricate tapestry of the “Steven Universe” narrative, exploring its past, present, and future, thereby enriching the already expansive lore of a series that has played a pivotal role in transforming contemporary animation.

Before unveiling her thrilling announcement, Sugar stepped forward from the gathered crowd to deliver a captivating performance of a new original song she composed for the highly anticipated second season of CNS’s beloved “Adventure Time” spinoff, “Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.”

This performance was part of a broader showcase led by producer and showrunner Adam Muto, who provided an exclusive preview of what fans can expect in Season 2. This upcoming season promises to delve deeper into Fionna’s unique world, shifting the focus away from the familiar landscapes of Ooo.

Notably, the character Huntress Wizzard is set to play a more significant role, adding depth and intrigue to the storyline as it unfolds.

Muto elaborated on the creative direction for the latest installment, stating that the intention was to retain a significant portion of the adventures set in Fiona’s universe. He believed this approach would lend a sense of normalcy to the narrative, although he acknowledged that the inherent strangeness of the series remains intact, a characteristic deeply embedded in the essence of “Adventure Time.”

Following this discussion, Sugar captivated the audience with a breathtaking live rendition of her song “Part of the Madness.” She reminisced about her collaboration with Muto, who had approached her with the idea of composing a song for Simon Petrikov.

The song was intended to convey a duality in Simon’s emotions: while he is grateful to have regained his sanity, it subtly reveals his lingering nostalgia for his former identity as the Ice King in the Land of Ooo.
